Tryp is Mexico’s first legal cannabis delivery marketplace, redefining how cannabis is accessed, purchased, and delivered. Founded by Antonio Gómez and Arturo Núñez, both early hires at Uber, Tryp leverages their expertise in scaling technology platforms to build a trusted, compliant ecosystem for legal cannabis.

With an emphasis on transparency, safety, and education, Tryp empowers consumers to seamlessly explore, purchase, and receive cannabis through a legally compliant platform. For businesses, Tryp provides an end-to-end commerce solution, offering advertisement services, streamlined fulfillment, and unparalleled operational support.

Our goal with Tryp was to simplify and legitimize cannabis commerce in Mexico. We wanted to create a platform that not only connects people to products but also builds trust in an emerging industry

Antonio Gomez (Co-Founder Tryp)

By combining operational excellence with transparency and innovation, Tryp has carved a niche as a leader in Mexico’s cannabis market, setting the standard for legal cannabis commerce.

“Used in the right way, cannabis can be a powerful tool for mental and physical wellness, with the potential to transform lives,” Gómez explained to VC Mexico. This approach positions Tryp as a pioneer in reshaping perceptions in Mexico’s evolving market.

Tryp: Inception Story

Tryp was founded to seize a unique moment in Mexico’s cannabis industry. Recent legislative changes, including the legalization of medical cannabis in 2017 and the decriminalization of recreational use in 2021, have set the stage for a regulated cannabis market.

Despite this potential, the market remains fragmented, with significant gaps in trust, compliance, and accessibility. Recognizing this, Antonio Gómez and Arturo Núñez set out to build a platform that could bridge these gaps and set a new standard for cannabis commerce in Mexico.

At Uber, we learned how to build trust and deliver reliability in industries where both were lacking. We saw an opportunity to apply those lessons to cannabis—a space filled with potential but in need of structure and innovation.

Antonio Gomez

From day one, Tryp was built with a customer-first philosophy. The founding team conducted extensive research with brands, retailers, and individual consumers to uncover pain points and design solutions that addressed real needs.

“We spoke to everyone–from retailers to individual customers–and their feedback shaped everything, from the logistics systems we designed to the way we structured our platform.” - Antonio Gómez

This feedback-driven model became a cornerstone of Tryp’s operations, ensuring the platform was not only innovative but also deeply aligned with the needs of its users.

Logistics and compliance quickly emerged as the most significant barrier to growth in the cannabis industry. Tryp tackled the challenge head-on by developing a robust delivery infrastructure designed for reliability, scalability, and legal compliance.

We realized that solving logistics for the cannabis market was as impactful as the products themselves.

Antonio Gomez

At the same time, Tryp took a proactive approach to regulations, working closely with industry stakeholders to stay ahead of legal developments.

“We didn’t just follow the rules; we proposed new standards that would set a higher bar for compliance and trust, even beyond current legal requirements” Gómez explained to VC Mexico.

By combining operational excellence, customer insights, and a deep understanding of Mexico’s cannabis landscape, Tryp has become a transformative force in the industry. Today, it’s not just a marketplace—it’s a blueprint for how cannabis commerce can thrive in emerging markets, setting new standards for trust, innovation, and compliance.

Funding Tryp: Future Roadmap

Tryp is on a trajectory of sustained growth, with plans to scale its logistics and fulfillment services while broadening its product offerings.

Drawing inspiration from the success of platforms like Dutchie and Leaflink in the US, Tryp aims to replicate similar levels of operational excellence and innovation tailored to the unique needs of the Latin American cannabis market.

As cannabis legalization gains momentum across Latin America, Tryp is closely monitoring developments to identify high-potential markets. With its scalable logistics infrastructure and regulatory expertise, Tryp is uniquely positioned to adapt quickly and bring its trusted model to new regions.

“Our success in Mexico has proven the model works. Now it’s about scaling that success and bringing our trusted platform to more markets”- Antonio Gomez

The cannabis industry’s constantly shifting regulatory and market conditions require adaptability. Tryp’s leadership embraces the need to remain flexible, making decisions that align with the company’s long-term vision while responding quickly to external changes.

Many companies build very specific plans for the future, but we’re subject to a tremendous number of outside influences; the reality is that this industry is shaped by factors we often can’t predict. Our only plan is to stay adaptable, and steer the boat day to day, rather than plan ahead far into the future.

Antonio Gomez

This philosophy ensures Tryp remains resilient in the face of uncertainty, enabling the company to navigate evolving conditions and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

The Tryp Approach

Tryp’s strategy is centered on an integrated approach to customer acquisition and retention, leveraging technology, community engagement, and data-driven insights to drive growth in a dynamic and regulated market. Operating in a heavily regulated industry, Tryp has crafted a marketing approach that prioritizes transparency and authenticity while staying fully compliant with legal frameworks.

  1. Educational and Value-Driven Content: Tryp shares factual resources and content to engage its audience, reduce stigma, and build a trusted community around cannabis commerce. “Our social media isn’t just about promotion; it’s about sparking conversations around factual evidence,” Gomez noted.

  2. Word-of-Mouth and Referral Programs: Satisfied customers are one of Tryp’s most powerful marketing channels. Incentivized referral programs reward users for bringing in friends and family, creating a cycle of trust and organic growth.

  3. Data-Driven Customer Insights: Tryp leverages analytics to continuously refine its strategies, ensuring the platform meets customer needs effectively. From optimizing product offerings to personalizing the user experience, data plays a key role in driving growth and improving operations.

Our success lies in blending data-driven digital marketing, authentic customer engagement, and the power of word-of-mouth—all while staying deeply connected to regulatory frameworks and our community. - Antonio Gomez

Challenges and Misconceptions

Operating in Mexico’s cannabis industry presents unique challenges, from navigating regulatory uncertainty to addressing deeply rooted societal misconceptions. Tryp has embraced these challenges, turning them into opportunities to build trust, educate the public, and pioneer a transparent and reliable cannabis marketplace.

“Building a business in an evolving legal landscape requires more than compliance; it requires actively helping shape the industry’s future,” - Antonio Gomez

The stigma surrounding cannabis remains a barrier. “Many still view cannabis through a narrow lens, but we see it as a tool for wellness and empowerment,” Gomez said. Tryp has invested heavily in education to shift perceptions, using content and events to inform and engage its audience.

Logistics posed another significant challenge. The fragmented nature of the cannabis supply chain in Mexico makes it difficult to ensure consistent, reliable delivery. From handling compliance requirements to ensuring secure logistics, the industry faces unique operational hurdles. “We realized that solving logistics challenges for the cannabis market was as impactful as ensuring the platform’s overall reliability” Gómez remarks.

Market Opportunity

The cannabis market in Mexico is positioned for transformative growth, projected to reach $2.84 billion by 2030 with a robust CAGR of 24.85% from 2023 to 2030. This growth is driven by expanding legal frameworks, increasing public acceptance, and advancements in cannabis-based products and medical applications, making Mexico—with its population of over 130 million—one of the largest cannabis markets globally.

Mexico is not just a market opportunity—it’s a gateway to the wider Latin American cannabis industry. As one of the largest economies in the region, Mexico’s regulatory progress is likely to influence neighboring countries, creating a ripple effect of growth and opportunity across Latin America.

“Mexico’s cannabis industry isn’t just about local impact—it’s a catalyst for growth across the region,” Gómez explains.
